Connecting Printify

Everything from a Printify account to PODease creating real products in your store. The only thing you copy anywhere is one token, and it goes in once.

⏱ About ten minutes, most of it waiting on Printify
Order matters. Connect Shopify to Printify first. PODease does not talk to Shopify directly, it works through Printify, so if no store is linked inside Printify there is nothing for it to publish to. PODease will tell you this rather than fail later, but it saves you a lap.
1

Link your store inside Printify

Skip this only if your Shopify store is already showing in Printify.

  1. Sign in at printify.com.
  2. Top right, open My Stores, then Manage my stores.
  3. Connect, pick Shopify, and approve the install on the Shopify side.

Etsy, eBay, Wix, Square and a Printify pop-up store all work the same way. PODease reads whichever channel you connected and uses its real name throughout, so if you connect Etsy the screens say Etsy.

2

Generate a Personal Access Token

This is Printify's API key. It is what lets PODease upload artwork and create products as you.

printify.com→your avatar, top right→My Profile→Connections
  1. Find Personal Access Tokens and choose Generate.
  2. Name it PODease so you know what it is in six months.
  3. Scopes: read on shops, catalog and print providers; read and write on products and uploads. If it only offers all-or-nothing, take that.
  4. Copy the whole string. It is long and it starts with letters and numbers, no prefix. Printify shows it once. If you lose it, delete it and generate another; there is no penalty.
Copy the entire token. The most common failure is a partial copy from a double-click, which selects only part of it. Click into the field, select all, then copy. No spaces before or after.
3

Paste it into PODease

podease.app/app→Connections→Printify
  1. Paste into the field marked Printify Personal Access Token.
  2. Press Connect Printify. The button says Validating… while it works.

It is doing something real in that moment: the token goes once over TLS to the PODease server, which calls Printify with it, confirms it works, finds your stores, and keeps it server-side. It is never stored in your browser and never shown again, including to you.

Connected looks like this: your store name appears on the Connections row, and the dashboard stops asking you to connect. If you have more than one store in Printify, pick which one PODease should publish to.
4

Prove it end to end

Do not trust a green tick. Push one product and go look at it.

  1. Prep Studio, upload one PNG with transparency.
  2. Pick a small product set. Two or three, not eleven, for the first run.
  3. Choose Hold in Printify rather than publishing. That creates the products for real without putting anything in front of a customer.
  4. Open Printify and look at the products. Check the artwork sits where you expect on each one.
  5. Happy? Publish. Then open Shopify and confirm they arrived.

When it does not work

Every one of these is a message PODease actually shows you, not a guess.

What you seeWhat it means
Token is valid, but no store is connectedStep 1 was skipped. The token is fine. Go link a store in Printify, then press Connect again.
401 or "unauthorized"The token is wrong, partially copied, or was deleted in Printify. Generate a fresh one and paste the whole thing.
A row says Rejected after publishingPrintify created the product but your channel refused it. The product does exist in Printify and you can publish it by hand there. The reason is on the row.
A row note about dropped variantsPrintify accepts 100 variants per product. A tee with a big colour and size grid exceeds that. Add the rest in Printify, or use a provider with a smaller grid.
A row note about reduced resolutionThat product's print area was too large for your browser to rasterise, so the file went out softer. Download the print files on a desktop browser for full resolution.
Flip flops published with one sideKnown. Both print files are generated and both are in the download, but only the first is sent. Add the second by hand.

Two things worth knowing before you start

There is no delete from PODease. Products only ever go one way, out to Printify. If you want a clean slate before a test run, delete the old products inside Printify first. That is on the roadmap, not in the build.

PODease does not manage Shopify collections. Printify has no collections API, so nothing here can create or fill one. Products land in Shopify and you group them there.
